Why it's a risk
The critical spreadsheet is fragile (one wrong paste and it's broken), opaque (nobody can audit it), and a key-person dependency (it breaks when that person is away). It doesn't scale, and it can't talk to your other systems.
You don't have to rip it out
The fix isn't always a big new platform. Often it's connecting the spreadsheet to your other tools so data flows automatically, or replacing just the fragile part with something reliable - see system and data integration.
